Please check your junk or spam folder first. If you still can't find it, contact us so we can confirm that your booking was completed successfully and that we have the correct email address on file.
How far in advance should I book?
Availability varies, and some appointment types book further in advance than others. We recommend reserving your preferred date as early as possible, particularly for Permanent Makeup and longer appointments.
Last-minute openings do occasionally become available, so you're always welcome to contact us via email (info@opiabrowsandbeauty.com) to check.
Can I book an appointment for someone else?
Yes, but the appointment must be booked using the client's own name, contact information and relevant health information. Each client must complete their own required forms and acknowledgements before treatment.
If you're purchasing a service as a gift, please contact us rather than booking the appointment under your own information.

If your question isn't answered, please email info@opiabrowsandbeauty.com or reply directly to your appointment email.

Brow Permanent Makeup (PMU)
What is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent Makeup is a type of cosmetic tattoo where pigment is deposited into the bottom of the epidermis layer of the skin (regenerates every 1-3 years), instead of entirely the dermis layer (regenerates every 75 years like a body tattoo).
This means that although it is a tattoo, it fades with time to a lighter version of itself, although usually doesn't fade to zero.
This is desirable because brow shape trends change, your face muscles and skin changes, hair colour changes, and you undoubtedly will want different brows at 55 than you did at 25.
Does getting PMU Brows hurt?
An effective topical anesthetic is used after the first portion of the procedure. The outline or structure of the shape created during the mapping portion of the service, must be kept before the anesthetic is applied and washes the markings away.
It only takes a few minutes.
Pain levels vary from person to person depending on skin sensitivity, present scar tissue from past procedures, hormone levels, and if you are a frequent smoker. Most clients describe it as a scratch - less painful than tweezing. Once the numbing is applied you should be quite comfortable.
Every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during the procedure. If you have had body tattoos, this procedure in comparison is MUCH less painful.
What is the healing process like for PMU Brows?
A full explanation of the healing process will be given at the consultation portion of your appointment, and you may schedule a consultation beforehand if you would like more information before deciding to book the service.
Healing can take anywhere from 5 to 14 days, and the experience truly varies per person, and also depends on the method of PMU applied.
Ombre Brows tend to have more flaking than the Nano method. Most of my clients who get Nano say they "didn't flake" - it was so minimal they didn't notice it. Ombre tends to flake more since it is the entire surface area of the brow that is treated with pigment, as opposed to small hairstrokes.
Either way, immediately after your procedure the brows will appear dark, and bold. They will continue to darken over the next few days and may feel tight like a sunburn.
Follow your aftercare instructions, and keep them moist with the ointment provided. There may be some itchiness, but make sure you do not scratch.
Your brows may begin to flake a few days in, and it is important to not touch, tug, or pick at these flakes and to allow them to fall off naturally. Once they do, your brows may appear very light in colour - this is normal for many people, however not every client experiences this.
Over the next 2-3 weeks the colour will reappear as the skin fully heals. Four weeks after your 1st appointment is when you will be able to see your result, please do not judge or worry before this time.
Permanent makeup is done in 2 sessions so please wait until after your brows have fully healed after the 2nd session (6-12 weeks later) before judging your result.
Can I wear makeup & foundation after I get my eyebrows done with Permanent Makeup?
No topical makeup on the brows for a minimum of 7 days or until all flaking is complete. Makeup can be bacterial and your brows need adequate time to heal to avoid irritation and/or infection. You may apply your makeup around the area but avoid the brows.
Will I still need to pluck/tweeze my eyebrows after I get Permanent Makeup done?
The procedure does not affect brow hair growth, so tweezing, waxing, and maintenance will still be required if desired.
This will be easier to do now that you’ll have the shape already defined and ready to follow.
What do I do before my Permanent Makeup appointment / What is the pre-care?
When you book your appointment online you will read through and agree to follow all the pre-care instructions.
A few of these instructions are listed below, but there are other restrictions that may apply to you.
Please read through the intake forms thoroughly to ensure you are a candidate at the time you intend to book.
- 24 hrs before your appointment AVOID EXCESS Caffeine (if you have 1 cup in the morning, that is fine, but no more). Including:
- Coffee
- Caffeinated sodas/ Energy drinks
- Caffeinated teas
- Caffeinated supplements or substances such as "Awake" Chocolate.
- 48 hrs before your appointment AVOID ALL:
- Alcohol
- 72 hrs before your appointment AVOID ALL:
- Oral fish oil supplements,
- Vitamin E supplements
- Niacin
- Curcumin
- Blood-thinning pain medication (including ibuprofen, aspirin, advil- but Tylenol is OK).
These instructions are very important and must be taken seriously. Otherwise, these actions have a negative impact on your healed result.
Please know if you do not follow these instructions, you run the risk of being sent home if your skin does not react well. Your procedure will need to be rescheduled with a new deposit paid.
What do I do after my PMU Brow appointment / What is the after-care?
Aftercare instructions will be explained during the consultation portion of your appointment, or if you come for a consultation beforehand.
You will be given access to the online PMU Eyebrow Guide which is an all-in-one incredible source for you to use throught the life of your brows.
Instructions include but are not limited to:

3. Applying a healing ointment (provided in your kit) 3-5 times a day for 7-10 days, or until all the flaking is complete.
4. Keeping the brows away from water/humidity and sweat for the first 7-10 days (no working out, sauna or hot tub etc.) They should not be wet for very long at any point- be quick about cleansing them, and quickly pat dry.

Beauty Services
What if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding? Can I get Brow Lamination, Henna, Waxing, or Lash Lifting & Tinting?
If you are pregnant, it is not recommended to get Brow Lamination, Henna or Tinting. However you may get Brow Waxing, and Lash Lift & Tint can be performed. If you are breastfeeding, it is acceptable although not recommended to get all of these services as long as you understand that if you experience a reaction, you would need to avoid breastfeeding until it subsides.
What If I’m on accutane? Can I get Brow Lamination, Henna, Waxing, or Lash Lifting & Tinting?
Only Brow Tinting & Tweezing (no waxing), and Lash Lifting & Tinting is suitable for those on Accutane currently or within the last 6 months.
What if I regularly use Retinol, Tretinoin, Glycolic Acid, AHA - can I get Brow Lamination, Henna, Waxing, or Lash Lifting & Tinting?
Regular use of these products make the skin sensitive. Lash Lifting is not an issue, as the products do not touch the skin, only the hairs. However the brow treatments listed are not recommended unless you stop the use of products on or near your brows at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
How do I know if I should schedule a patch test? What is it?
Patch tests can help determine if you have an allergy to the products used by only applying a small amount of each to your skin, and seeing how you react over the next 48 hours. However, if you don’t experience a reaction, that does not absolutely rule out the possibility of reacting to the full service. If you’ve had reactions in the past, a patch test is recommended, although it may simply not be the service for you.
How long does tinting last for eyebrows or eyelashes?
Tinting lasts on the brow hairs for 4-6 weeks, and on the skin for up to a few days. Lashes will hold the tint for 4-6 weeks as well.
What if I have a negative reaction to Brow Lamination, Henna, Waxing, or Lash Lifting & Tinting?
Seek medical care immediately, and inform your artist of your reaction with photos when you can. Calling the Alberta Health Line, 811 can get you heading in the right direction. Allergic or sensitivity induced reactions are rare, but they do happen. It is unforeseeable and unfortunate, but a risk every client must acknowledge in the consent form before the services are provided.
What are the possible risks to Brow Lamination, Henna, Waxing, or Lash Lifting & Tinting?
Possible risks include:
-
- Tingling, stinging, or burning sensations during any of the services
- Over-exfoliated skin due to waxing (sensitive skin from retinol, or other conditions), where the skin has a shiny raw appearance. This heals over 1-2 weeks.
- Allergic reactions which could appear as brows that are red, swollen, or even white fluid leaking. Or in the case of the eye, red, watery, stinging eyes.
Lip Blush PMU
What is Lip Blush PMU?
Lip Blush is a method of designing and enhancing your natural lip shape, then implanting pigment. This creates a beautiful natural shape, colour, and fullness to your lips that heals naturally and almost indetectable. A “born with it” look once healed.
Does it hurt to get Lip Permanent Makeup?
After the shape is drawn and mapped, you will sit with a 5% lidocaine solution for 20 minutes, after which we begin the procedure, and your artist will continually add a secondary numbing solution. Most clients are quite comfortable throughout the entire service, often falling asleep.
What is the healing process of Lip Permanent Makeup? When will I see my result?
The initial stages of healing are complete in 5 days, where all the flaking will be done and gone. However, lips take 8-12 weeks to FULLY heal and show the true colour. 12 weeks is especially needed for those starting with melanin in their lips (dark lips) that are undergoing Lip Neutralization.
How long does Lip Permanent Makeup last?
This has a lot to do with how much pigment is implanted, as well as proper aftercare, and long term hydration of your lips. Wanting light saturation, “just a tint” will fade quicker versus bolder saturation. If you get dry, cracked lips often - that will fade your lips faster.
How many sessions will I need?
For clients starting with pale lips (no melanin) 1 session is often sufficient. Clients with dark lips, or uneven lip tone will often require 2 or more sessions depending on the result they wish to achieve.
What are the risks to Lip Permanent Makeup?
There is a risk of swelling (would go down in less than 24 hours), possible infection while healing, hyperpigmentation and/or hypopigmentation (for lip neutralization clients), cold sore flare ups, prolonged dryness (after the peeling has completed).
What if I get cold sores?
If you have EVER had a cold sore, Lip Permanent Makeup is highly likely to cause a flare up. This doesn't prevent you from getting the service and achieving a beautiful result, however it does make the healing process more difficult for you. It is recommended you visit your pharmacist and get started on antiviral medication a few days before your service, and continue a few days after to help the process along.
What if I have previous Lip Permanent Makeup, can you re-do it?
If you have had previous work done on your lips, you must first schedule an in person consultation to determine what can be done for you.
Can I still get lip blush PMU if I have dry, cracked lips?
The Lip Permanent Makeup procedure can ONLY be done on healthy, hydrated, smooth lips. YOu must first get your lips in healthy order before getting this service. Hydrate with water and electrolytes, reduce caffeine.
Clients are also instructed to apply a Hyaluronic Acid Serum to wet lips and cover with Vaseline morning and night the week before the treatment. If you deal with chronic dry lips, trying this protocol for a while and seeing how your lips are before booking would be a good course of action.
How does the colour get chosen?
There are dozens of pigments ready to be mixed up to create a perfect match to you. It is recommended that clients who have a few favorite lip products bring them into their appointment so your artist can see them and how they look on your own natural lip tone. Keep in mind that the colour mixed up won’t look how your healed result will look. It will blend with your natural lip tone, fade, and soften.
What if I don’t like the colour?
It is very normal to see the initial colour once the service is complete and be shocked - it will look either quite red (on pale lips), or orange (for lip neutralization). However, this is not the final result. Even once your lips are done peeling, you must remember that lips take 8-12 weeks to see the true colour. It will change more than you expect. Most clients see their lips after the peeling is complete and think it's too bright pink (for pale lips) or like nothing happened (for lip neutralization). Be patient and allow your lips to continue healing.
What is the aftercare requirements for Lip Permanent Makeup?
A full explanation of the aftercare will be discussed at either a pre-booked consultation or at your first treatment appointment. A brief overview is that you will be cleansing your lips every hour and applying ointment for the first day, then continuing to apply ointment for the next 5 days as the flaking completes.
Avoid sweating, exercise, saunas, hot baths/showers, and swimming for 5 days. Avoid UV and sun exposure for 30 days by wearing a hat and using a SPF lip balm. Also, booking your appointment when you don't have any big events on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th day is a smart choice, as those are the days where your lips will be flaking.
What are the pre-care requirements for Lip Permanent Makeup?
You must come to your appointment with smooth, hydrated lips. Avoid excessive caffeine 24 hours before the appointment, if you have one cup of coffee/tea in the morning thats fine, but no more than that. NO alcohol 48 hours before your appointment. NO blood thinning medication 72 hours before the appointment.
What are the contraindications for Lip Permanent Makeup?
You must not be pregnant, on accutane in the last 6 months, on antibiotics in the last 2 weeks, or any filler or botox in the lip area 4 weeks before and after. This is not the complete list of contraindications, as the booking system will take you through a full questionnaire.
Laser Brow Treatments & Removal
What are the Laser Brow Treatments?
OPIA offers both Laser Brow Toning and Laser Brow Removal. These are treatments to remove either partially or fully- undesirable permanent makeup. The permanent makeup may have aged to a poor colour, in which case Laser Toning may be an option. However if the shape is off, or the technique is poor, full removal would be necessary.
What is Laser Toning?
Laser Toning is a gentle version of Laser Tattoo Removal, where only partial removal is completed. This is to ideally shift the colour/tone of the permanent makeup to be more desirable, or lighten the pigment load in the brows. The client may be happy with this shift on its own, or potentially undergo a touchup with corrective permanent makeup. This is ideal for clients who are happy with their brow shape, and are just looking for a minor change - for example a client who’s brows have turned ashy grey can get a laser toning treatment to warm up the brows towards a taupe or brown.
What is Laser Brow Removal?
Laser Brow Removal is Laser Tattoo Removal - for brows. The laser targets the pigment and shatters it into smaller particles so that the body’s lymphatic system can sweep away the pigment. Depending on the starting point of the client's brows, the course of treatment varies. Multiple sessions are expected, as little as 2 treatments 6-8 weeks apart, or as many as 5 may be required to reach “the end point” of laser tattoo removal which can be a yellow residue that can either fade on its own, be corrected with permanent makeup, or be removed through manual methods - see “Eyebrow Microneedling”.
Do Laser Brow Treatments hurt?
All OPIA Clients will be provided numbing for the service via a strong topical anesthetic gel that sits for 30 minutes. However even with the numbing the treatment is not painless, although it is very quick - about a minute per brow.
What is the aftercare for Laser Brow Treatments?
You will leave the brows alone for 6-12 hours besides the option of applying ice packs with a cloth barrier if they feel swollen. After this you will gently cleanse your brows daily and apply a healing ointment provided for the first week. You will need to wear a hat or apply SPF (season dependent) for the 30 days following your treatment. Avoid makeup on your brows for 48 hours, or until they feel back to normal. Avoid sweating, exercise, hot showers/baths, hot tubs, saunas or swimming for 72 hours.
What are the contraindications for Laser Brow Treatments?
Must not be pregnant or breastfeeding, on accutane in the last 6 months, antibiotics in the last 2 weeks, brow treatments like lamination or tinting 1 week before, surgical pins in the brow or brow area, piercings that cannot be removed from the brow/brow area, undergoing cancer or chemo treatments, active skin condition on or near the brows, botox or injections on or near the brows for 2 weeks before & after. This is not the complete list of contraindications, as the booking system will take you through a full questionnaire.
How many sessions will I need?
There is little way of knowing exactly how your brows will react to the laser treatments. However, the more times you have had them done, the higher the likelihood of 3+ treatments can be expected.
What will my brows look like after the Laser Brow Treatments?
For Laser Toning, you can expect some minor redness in the brow area that subsides in an hour or so. The permanent makeup will look light right away, but will darken a touch after an hour or so when the skin goes back to normal.
For Laser Brow Tattoo Removal, the area will have some redness and minor swelling that subsides in a few hours.
The permanent makeup will appear different colours depending on the stage of removal your’re at. They may look quite light immediately after, which is a reaction of the skin whitening under the laser, after an hour you will see the true colour. Results are often dark or light grey, red, yellow, or a mixture of these. Your brows continue to lighten throughout the 6-8 weeks between removal sessions.
Do you numb my brows for Laser Brow Treatments?
Yes, all OPIA Clients will be provided numbing for the service via a strong topical anesthetic gel that sits for 30 minutes.
What are the risks for Laser Brow Treatments?
Swelling, soreness, redness, itchiness, scabbing, bruising, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation

Laser Tattoo Removal
What Laser Tattoo Removal?
Laser Tattoo Removal is the process of tattoo lightening. Different laser wavelengths target different pigments in the tattoo, and blast the pigment into smaller particles which are then flushed away through the body’s lymphatic system over time.
What Laser do you use?
At OPIA, we use a modern, “Picosecond” Laser technology machine. This has a shorter pulse duration - meaning it is in the skin for less time, causing less damage than older technologies. We operate our machine at two different wavelengths that target black/grey, red/orange/pink.
What kinds of Tattoos can you remove?
We operate our machine at two different wavelengths that target either black/grey, red/orange/pink. We can successfully remove these colours as well as all permanent makeup eyebrows, and even black permanent makeup eyeliner.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required can never be determined or guaranteed by your technician. Factors that impact how many sessions you need include but are not limited to: technique of the artist, amount of pigment, number of tattooing sessions done on the area, type of pigment/inks used, your health, your skin’s reaction, and your aftercare.
Can I expect my tattoo to be removed fully?
Full removal of pigment can be achieved. However, it cannot be guaranteed. There may be scarring from the tattoo that holds stubborn pigment residue.
What will my skin look like after Tattoo Removal is done? Will my skin look like I never had a tattoo there?
This depends greatly on the technique of your tattoo artist when doing the tattoo, your aftercare from the tattoo, as well as your aftercare throughout the removal sessions. Ideally the quality of the skin is not changed through the removal process, and your result will mostly be determined only by the impact of the tattoo itself. You may have some scarring, for example. Methods like microneedling or other laser treatments can help reduce the appearance of residual scars.
What will my skin/tattoo look like right after the Laser Tattoo Removal Treatments?
What will my skin/tattoo look like right after the Laser Tattoo Removal Treatments?
You can expect to experience some common immediate effects including: redness and swelling, bruising, sensitivity to light. The “Frosting” effect may also occur, this is where the tattoo has a white appearance after the service, however this does not last longer than an hour and will soon look like how it was before the session. The lightning and removal of pigment happens over the following 6-12 weeks as your lymphatic system flushes the pigment.
Do you numb for Laser Tattoo Removal Treatments?
OPIA does provide numbing for each client. At your first appointment you will sit with numbing applied for 30 minutes before the service is completed. You will then be given a packet of numbing to apply yourself 30 minutes before your next appointment. You will be instructed on how to apply the numbing to achieve the greatest effectiveness.
Does Laser Tattoo Removal hurt?
Without numbing, Laser Tattoo Removal can be fairly painful, however it is over quickly. Clients describe it as a hot elastic snapping on your skin. However, the numbing does impact your comfort, and clients tend to say it doesn't hurt more than getting the tattoo itself.
What is the aftercare for Laser Tattoo Removal Treatments?
If a dressing is applied to the area, leave it alone for 6-12 hours. After which you will cleanse the area with a mild soap or cleanser. Eyebrow Microneedling
What is Eyebrow Microneedling?
OPIA provides two kinds of services of Eyebrow Microneedling to achieve results of either brow hair-regrowth, or removal of residual yellow pigment from faded or lasered permanent makeup brows. Two different solutions are used to achieve either result. The method of microneedling implants the solutions as well as helps break up any scarring from previous brow permanent makeup.
Does Eyebrow Microneedling really remove the yellow pigment that is the end point from Laser Tattoo Removal for Brows?
Yellow is a very difficult pigment to remove, as it cannot be effectively targeted by laser, and manual methods tend to provide the best results. Methods also include Saline or Acid Removal, however these services can be quite painful and OPIA technicians have found effective results with other, more gentle solutions.
Do Eyebrow Microneedling Treatments hurt?
You will sit with numbing applied for 20-30 minutes before the treatment begins, and then an additional secondary numbing solution will be applied half way through the service. Clients do not find the service particularly painful, however it is not completely painless. Experiences vary from person to person and can be impacted by hormones, skin sensitivities and the state of the brows themselves.
What is the aftercare for Eyebrow Microneedling Treatments?
Allow the solution applied at the end of the service to sit and absorb for at least 6 hours. After which you will gently cleanse the brows with a mild soap or cleanser and pat dry with a clean, disposable paper towel. You will be provided a healing ointment you can begin to apply 12-24 hours after the service. You will continue to cleanse the brows once a day, and apply ointment as needed. Protect your brows from sun and UV exposure with a hat for the first week, after which you may switch to an SPF for the raider of the 30 day healing process. Avoid sweating, exercise, sauna, hot baths/showers, steam rooms, or swimming for 72 hours.
