LIP BLUSH & Neutralization
Frequently Asked
thoroughly answered
What is Lip Blush PMU?
Lip Blush is a method of designing and enhancing your natural lip shape, then implanting pigment. This creates a beautiful natural shape, colour, and fullness to your lips that heals naturally and almost indetectable. A “born with it” look once healed.
Does it hurt?
After the shape is drawn and mapped, you will sit with a 5% lidocaine solution for 20 minutes, after which we begin the procedure, and your artist will continually add a secondary numbing solution. Most clients are quite comfortable throughout the entire service, often falling asleep. By the end, it can feel tender and sore, however you will still be numb.
How does the colour get chosen?
There are dozens of pigments ready to be mixed up to create a perfect match to you. It is recommended that clients who have a few favorite lip products bring them into their appointment so your artist can see them and how they look on your own natural lip tone. Keep in mind that the colour mixed up won’t look how your healed result will look. It will blend with your natural lip tone, fade, and soften.
What is the healing process?
The initial stages of healing are complete in 5 days, where all the flaking will be done and gone. However, lips take 8-12 weeks to FULLY heal and show the true colour. 12 weeks is especially needed for those starting with melanin in their lips (dark lips) that are undergoing Lip Neutralization.
How many sessions will I need?
For clients starting with pale lips (no melanin) 1 session is often sufficient. Clients with dark lips, or uneven lip tone will often require 2 or more sessions depending on the result they wish to achieve.
How long does it last?
This has a lot to do with how much pigment is implanted, as well as proper aftercare, and long term hydration of your lips. Wanting light saturation, “just a tint” will fade quicker versus bolder saturation. If you get dry, cracked lips often – that will fade your lips faster.
What if I don’t like the colour?
It is very normal to see the initial colour once the service is complete and be shocked – it will look either quite red (on pale lips), or orange (for lip neutralization). However, this is not the final result. Even once your lips are done peeling, you must remember that lips take 8-12 weeks to see the true colour. It will change more than you expect. Most clients see their lips after the peeling is complete and think it’s too bright pink (for pale lips) or like nothing happened (for lip neutralization). Be patient and allow your lips to continue healing.
What if I have dry, cracked lips?
The Lip Permanent Makeup procedure can ONLY be done on healthy, hydrated, smooth lips. YOu must first get your lips in healthy order before getting this service. Hydrate with water and electrolytes, reduce caffeine.
Clients are also instructed to apply a Hyaluronic Acid Serum to wet lips and cover with Vaseline morning and night the week before the treatment. If you deal with chronic dry lips, trying this protocol for a while and seeing how your lips are before booking would be a good course of action.
What if I get cold sores?
If you have EVER had a cold sore, Lip Permanent Makeup is highly likely to cause a flare up. This doesn’t prevent you from getting the service and achieving a beautiful result, however it does make the healing process more difficult for you. It is recommended you visit your pharmacist and get started on antiviral medication a few days before your service, and continue a few days after to help the process along.
What are the risks?
There is a risk of swelling (would go down in less than 24 hours), possible infection while healing, hyperpigmentation and/or hypopigmentation (for lip neutralization clients), cold sore flare ups, prolonged dryness (after the peeling has completed).
What if I have previous Lip Permanent Makeup?
If you have had previous work done on your lips, you must first schedule an in person consultation to determine what can be done for you.
What is the aftercare?
A full explanation of the aftercare will be discussed at either a pre-booked consultation or at your first treatment appointment.
A few main points:
– Cleansing your lips every hour and applying ointment for the first day, then continuing to apply ointment for the next 5 days as the flaking completes.
– Avoid sweating, exercise, saunas, hot baths/showers, and swimming for 5 days.
– Avoid UV and sun exposure for 30 days by wearing a hat and using a SPF lip balm.
Also, booking your appointment when you don’t have any big events on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th day is a smart choice, as those are the days where your lips will be flaking.
What are the pre-care instructions?
– You must come to your appointment with smooth, hydrated lips.
– Avoid excessive caffeine 24 hours before the appointment, if you have one cup of coffee/tea in the morning thats fine, but no more than that.
– NO alcohol 48 hours before your appointment.
– NO blood thinning medication 72 hours before the appointment.
What are the contraindications? Who can't get it?
You must not be pregnant, on accutane in the last 6 months, on antibiotics in the last 2 weeks, or any filler or botox in the lip area 4 weeks before and after. This is not the complete list of contraindications, as the booking system will take you through a full questionnaire.
