LAser Brow Treatments

& Removal

Frequently Asked

thoroughly answered

What are the Laser Brow Treatments?

OPIA offers both Laser Brow Toning and Laser Brow Removal. These are treatments to remove either partially or fully- undesirable permanent makeup. The permanent makeup may have aged to a poor colour, in which case Laser Toning may be an option. However if the shape is off, or the technique is poor, full removal would be necessary.

What is Laser Toning?

Laser Toning is a gentle version of Laser Tattoo Removal, where only partial removal is completed. This is to ideally shift the colour/tone of the permanent makeup to be more desirable, or lighten the pigment load in the brows. The client may be happy with this shift on its own, or potentially undergo a touchup with corrective permanent makeup. This is ideal for clients who are happy with their brow shape, and are just looking for a minor change – for example a client who’s brows have turned ashy grey can get a laser toning treatment to warm up the brows towards a taupe or brown.

What is Laser Brow Removal?

Laser Brow Removal is Laser Tattoo Removal – for brows. The laser targets the pigment and shatters it into smaller particles so that the body’s lymphatic system can sweep away the pigment. Depending on the starting point of the client’s brows, the course of treatment varies. Multiple sessions are expected, as little as 2 treatments 6-8 weeks apart, or as many as 5 may be required to reach “the end point” of laser tattoo removal which can be a yellow residue that can either fade on its own, be corrected with permanent makeup, or be removed through manual methods – see “Eyebrow Microneedling”.

Do Laser Brow Treatments hurt?

All OPIA Clients will be provided numbing for the service via a strong topical anesthetic gel that sits for 30 minutes. However even with the numbing the treatment is not painless, although it is very quick – about a minute per brow.

What is the aftercare for Laser Brow Treatments?

You will leave the brows alone for 6-12 hours besides the option of applying ice packs with a cloth barrier if they feel swollen. After this you will gently cleanse your brows daily and apply a healing ointment provided for the first week. You will need to wear a hat or apply SPF (season dependent) for the 30 days following your treatment. Avoid makeup on your brows for 48 hours, or until they feel back to normal. Avoid sweating, exercise, hot showers/baths, hot tubs, saunas or swimming for 72 hours.

What are the contraindications for Laser Brow Treatments?

Must not be pregnant or breastfeeding, on accutane in the last 6 months, antibiotics in the last 2 weeks, brow treatments like lamination or tinting 1 week before, surgical pins in the brow or brow area, piercings that cannot be removed from the brow/brow area, undergoing cancer or chemo treatments, active skin condition on or near the brows, botox or injections on or near the brows for 2 weeks before & after. This is not the complete list of contraindications, as the booking system will take you through a full questionnaire.

How many sessions will I need?

There is little way of knowing exactly how your brows will react to the laser treatments. However, the more times you have had them done, the higher the likelihood of 3+ treatments can be expected.

What will my brows look like after the Laser Brow Treatments?

For Laser Toning, you can expect some minor redness in the brow area that subsides in an hour or so. The permanent makeup will look light right away, but will darken a touch after an hour or so when the skin goes back to normal.

For Laser Brow Tattoo Removal, the area will have some redness and minor swelling that subsides in a few hours.

The permanent makeup will appear different colours depending on the stage of removal your’re at. They may look quite light immediately after, which is a reaction of the skin whitening under the laser, after an hour you will see the true colour. Results are often dark or light grey, red, yellow, or a mixture of these. Your brows continue to lighten throughout the 6-8 weeks between removal sessions.

Do you numb my brows for Laser Brow Treatments?

Yes, all OPIA Clients will be provided numbing for the service via a strong topical anesthetic gel that sits for 30 minutes.

What are the risks for Laser Brow Treatments?

Swelling, soreness, redness, itchiness, scabbing, bruising, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation

What if I don’t like the colour?

It is very normal to see the initial colour once the service is complete and be shocked – it will look either quite red (on pale lips), or orange (for lip neutralization). However, this is not the final result. Even once your lips are done peeling, you must remember that lips take 8-12 weeks to see the true colour. It will change more than you expect. Most clients see their lips after the peeling is complete and think it’s too bright pink (for pale lips) or like nothing happened (for lip neutralization). Be patient and allow your lips to continue healing.
