Eyebrow Permanent Makeup
Frequently Asked
thoroughly answered
What is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent Makeup is a type of cosmetic tattoo where pigment is deposited into the bottom of the epidermis layer of the skin (regenerates every 1-3 years), instead of entirely the dermis layer (regenerates every 75 years like a body tattoo).
This means that although it is a tattoo, it fades with time to a lighter version of itself, although usually doesn’t fade to zero.
This is desirable because brow shape trends change, your face muscles and skin changes, hair colour changes, and you undoubtedly will want different brows at 55 than you did at 25.
Does getting PMU Brows hurt?
An effective topical anesthetic is used after the first portion of the procedure. The outline or structure of the shape created during the mapping portion of the service, must be kept before the anesthetic is applied and washes the markings away.
It only takes a few minutes.
Pain levels vary from person to person depending on skin sensitivity, present scar tissue from past procedures, hormone levels, and if you are a frequent smoker. Most clients describe it as a scratch – less painful than tweezing. Once the numbing is applied you should be quite comfortable.
Every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during the procedure. If you have had body tattoos, this procedure in comparison is MUCH less painful.
What is the healing process like for PMU Brows?
A full explanation of the healing process will be given at the consultation portion of your appointment, and you may schedule a consultation beforehand if you would like more information before deciding to book the service.
Healing can take anywhere from 5 to 14 days, and the experience truly varies per person, and also depends on the method of PMU applied.
Ombre Brows tend to have more flaking than the Nano method. Most of my clients who get Nano say they “didn’t flake” – it was so minimal they didn’t notice it. Ombre tends to flake more since it is the entire surface area of the brow that is treated with pigment, as opposed to small hairstrokes.
Either way, immediately after your procedure the brows will appear dark, and bold. They will continue to darken over the next few days and may feel tight like a sunburn.
Follow your aftercare instructions, and keep them moist with the ointment provided. There may be some itchiness, but make sure you do not scratch.
Your brows may begin to flake a few days in, and it is important to not touch, tug, or pick at these flakes and to allow them to fall off naturally. Once they do, your brows may appear very light in colour – this is normal for many people, however not every client experiences this.
Over the next 2-3 weeks the colour will reappear as the skin fully heals. Four weeks after your 1st appointment is when you will be able to see your result, please do not judge or worry before this time.
Permanent makeup is done in 2 sessions so please wait until after your brows have fully healed after the 2nd session (6-12 weeks later) before judging your result.
Can I wear makeup & foundation after I get my eyebrows done with Permanent Makeup?
No topical makeup on the brows for a minimum of 7 days or until all flaking is complete. Makeup can be bacterial and your brows need adequate time to heal to avoid irritation and/or infection. You may apply your makeup around the area but avoid the brows.
Will I still need to pluck/tweeze my eyebrows after I get Permanent Makeup done?
The procedure does not affect brow hair growth, so tweezing, waxing, and maintenance will still be required if desired.
This will be easier to do now that you’ll have the shape already defined and ready to follow.
